Personal care is one of the most intimate forms of support a person can receive. It involves assistance with the tasks closest to our sense of self — hygiene, grooming, and the routines that shape how we present to and participate in the world. When this support is done well, it is invisible: it simply enables someone to start their day feeling clean, comfortable, and ready. When it is done poorly, it can feel clinical, rushed, or disrespectful.
At Benity Care, personal care is done well. Our support workers approach every interaction with genuine respect for the individual — their preferences, their dignity, and their right to direct their own care. We believe that everyone deserves to start each day feeling cared for, and that personal care support should feel like exactly that: care.

Personal care support covers the physical assistance a person needs with tasks related to their body and daily hygiene routines. At Benity Care, this includes assistance with showering and bathing, oral hygiene and dental care, hair washing and styling, grooming and skin care, dressing and undressing, continence management, pressure area care, and the use of assistive devices such as hoists and shower chairs.
Personal care can also extend to support with morning and evening routines more broadly — prompting medication, preparing for community activities, and ensuring a participant is ready for whatever the day holds. Every element of personal care from Benity Care is delivered according to the participant’s own preferences and at their own pace.
Personal care from Benity Care is built on four foundations: dignity, consistency, cultural sensitivity, and active promotion of independence.
Dignity means that personal care is always delivered with respect for the participant’s privacy, body, and personal choices. Our workers do not rush, do not make unnecessary conversation during intimate tasks, and always follow the participant’s lead on how they want support to be provided.
Consistency means that we match each participant with a small, stable team of workers who get to know the individual’s preferences and routine. Familiar faces make personal care feel comfortable rather than clinical — and familiarity also means workers are better placed to notice when something has changed.
Cultural sensitivity means we take seriously the cultural, religious, and personal preferences of every participant. Same-gender worker matching, respectful of religious requirements regarding personal care, and attentiveness to cultural norms around clothing and hygiene are standard parts of our approach — not exceptions.
Promoting independence means our workers support participation in tasks rather than simply completing them. Where a participant’s goal is to develop or maintain their own capacity in personal care, our workers use a coaching approach that builds skill and confidence over time.
Benity Care’s personal care workers are selected for their empathy and their professionalism in equal measure. Technical skill matters — safe manual handling, infection control, and knowledge of assistive equipment are all essential. But so does the ability to make someone feel comfortable, respected, and genuinely cared for during a vulnerable part of their day.
We invest in ongoing training for all personal care workers, including person-centred care practices, trauma-informed support, and cultural competency. We also invest in the matching process — taking the time to pair each participant with workers whose background, communication style, and approach are a genuine fit.
If something is not right — a preference has not been followed, a routine has changed, or a worker is not the right match — Benity Care responds. Concerns are addressed promptly and the participant’s feedback shapes every adjustment we make.

Personal care is for NDIS participants whose disability affects their ability to manage aspects of their hygiene and grooming routine safely or independently. This includes people with physical disabilities, acquired brain injuries, progressive neurological conditions, intellectual disability, chronic health conditions, and ageing-related disability.
It is relevant across all life stages — from children who need developmental support with self-care skills, to adults managing complex physical conditions, to older participants whose disability has emerged or increased over time. Benity Care adapts its approach to suit the individual’s age, condition, and goals.
